Your function as an Encourager is the most important and has the most impact runners and other spectators will have of the Finish Strong Project. Your impact is enormous! Please “be loud” as you cheer, encourage, and clap for these runners.

1. Don’t get in their way – keep at least 2 lanes of traffic open at all times.
2. Hold a poster. Many are available.
3. Call the runner by name:
Many repeat marathon runners have their name in large print on their shirt or legs so they can be directly addressed by spectators and encouraged with:
"Go Mary!!!" "Yea Bill!!!" “One mile to go John!!!”
4. Call them by some other identifying element:
Runners often wear shirt or shorts that identify schools, logos, companies, etc:
"Go Longhorn!" "Only 1 more mile Southwest Airlines!" "Hang in there purple shirt!"
5. Identify the First Time Marathon Runner – or the race they are doing:
Full Marathoners – White bibs – “Go Veteran!”
1st Time Full Marathoners – Blue bibs – “ Keep it up First-Timer!”
  Half Marathoners – Purple bibs
  Relay Runners – Green bibs

Remember at mile 25, it will be as if these people have physically run to Downtown Dallas from Fort Worth - they need encouragement!!!

Think about it - what do you want people to think about the Dallas Christian Community, your Church, your group, etc???
1. Nothing?? Because we did nothing as 18,000 people ran through the most difficult part of the marathon?
2. Or would you want them to remember "they cared for me - and they did not even know me!"

We fully expect this will draw in many people that live and work downtown – as other spectators. BE FRIENDLY – say hello if you don’t know someone. Consider them to be someone that has come to a party at your home – include them – just be nice! Nothing could do more for Christian Community in Dallas than these simple gestures!

AND HAVE FUN!!!

We want to show the runners, Downtown residents and employees, and the city that the Christian community loves Christ, loves our community, and encourages our community to "Finish Strong"

Questions???
Ask someone in a Yellow “Finish Strong” T-Shirt.
